Harbour Island — "Briland" to locals — is the postcard: a three-mile blush-pink beach, a candy-colored colonial town, and water that glows. It's small enough to enjoy in a day and easy to reach from North Eleuthera. Here's how to plan it, plus the part most visitors miss — seeing it from the water.
How to get to Harbour Island
Like Spanish Wells, Harbour Island has no airport of its own — you reach it by a short ferry from the North Eleuthera mainland:
- Fly into North Eleuthera (ELH).
- Taxi to the government dock. A few minutes from the airport.
- Ferry across to Harbour Island. The crossing is quick and runs throughout the day.
Because North Eleuthera is the shared hub, you can easily base in Spanish Wells and day-trip to Harbour Island, or vice versa.
Pink Sands Beach — the main event
The famous pink color is real, and it's strongest in the soft morning and late-afternoon light. The sand gets its blush from microscopic red-shelled organisms (foraminifera) washed up from the reef and mixed into the white sand. The beach runs about three miles along the island's Atlantic side — wide, walkable and rarely crowded once you stroll away from the access points.

Getting around Dunmore Town
Harbour Island runs on golf carts, just like Spanish Wells. Rent one at the dock and you can see the whole island — beach, town and bluff — in a relaxed day. Dunmore Town's pastel clapboard houses, flower-draped lanes and little galleries are made for wandering.
Where to eat & what to do
- Lunch by the water at one of the harbor-side spots — conch, fresh fish and a rum punch.
- Swim and stroll Pink Sands — bring reef-safe sunscreen and a hat; shade is limited.
- Browse Dunmore Town — boutiques, galleries and the famous pink-and-white architecture.
- Sunset at a bluff bar — the west-facing side of the island is the spot for it.
See it from the water
Most day-trippers only ever see Harbour Island from the sand. The better version is from a boat: the surrounding flats, sandbars and reefs are stunning, and the run over from North Eleuthera or Spanish Wells is part of the fun. We fold Harbour Island into custom days alongside sandbars, snorkeling or even the swimming pigs.
